What is the Trigeminal Nerve?
When the temporomandibular joint comes out of alignment, it is called TMJ or TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder). TMD can cause pain and discomfort all over the face as a result of irritating the trigeminal nerve. Some of the other serious side effects of TMD include:
- Chipped, Worn, or Cracked Teeth as a result of Tooth Grinding
- Migraine Headaches
- Jaw Pain
- Neck Pain
- Facial Pain
- Sensitive Teeth
- "Lock" Jaw
To help you deal with your TMD pain or trigeminal nerve pain, the experienced neuromuscular dentistry professionals at the Colonial Dental Group in Glenview, Illinois will evaluate the status of your temporomandibular joint and trigeminal nerve and determine how best to correct the alignment of your jaw.
If you live in the Chicago, Illinois area and are dealing with trigeminal nerve pain, please schedule an initial consultation with the Colonial Dental Group to learn about TMD and how you can correct it.

Porcelain Veneers vs. Porcelain Crowns
We want all our patients to know that porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns provide patients with a more lifelike appearance and performance than other dental materials, but they are used for two very distinct purposes in cosmetic dentistry:
Porcelain Veneers - Porcelain veneers are bonded to the front sides of your teeth; leaving the rest of the tooth intact. When porcelain veneers are bonded to the natural tooth structure already in place, they can correct any number of aesthetic problems such as:
- Chipped Teeth
- Cracked Teeth
- Discolored Teeth
- Crooked Teeth
For the most part, porcelain veneers are placed on the front teeth; the ones other people see most often.
Porcelain Crowns - Porcelain crowns are used to restore the function as well as the appearance of teeth when they have been too badly damaged as a result of trauma or decay. A porcelain crown acts like a cap that is placed over the existing tooth structure so that you can smile and chew confidently. Usually, porcelain crowns are placed on rear teeth like the molars, where the majority of your chewing takes place.
If you live in the Chicago area and are interested in having porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns placed on your teeth, please schedule an initial consultation with our experienced cosmetic dentists at our Glenview, Illinois porcelain veneer practice to learn more about your options.

Why Do Teeth Darken?
Dark foods and drinks like coffee, tea, and soda can darken the color of your teeth over time. In addition to these factors, you may have teeth that simply darken more over time than other people. Finally, certain medicines can chemically stain your teeth, causing them to look discolored.
We provide a few different teeth whitening options at our cosmetic dentistry office in Glenview, Illinois:
For most patient's teeth, a simple, fast tooth whitening procedure can be completed in about an hour. This is a perfect option for working or busy people to improve the shade of their teeth within their tight schedules. Depending on the severity of your teeth stains, more extreme whitening procedures may need to be performed.
If you're suffering from having dark teeth and would like to whiten them, please schedule an initial consultation with our experienced teeth whitening cosmetic dentists at the Colonial Dental Group in the Chicago, Illinois area.
