Why Consider White Fillings?

Porcelain fillings, also referred to as white fillings, are the modern alternative to the silver fillings used in the past. Not only are they safer than the mercury (amalgam) based fillings, they are also extremely durable and natural looking.

Our office uses porcelain onlays and inlays on our patients and they perform and look just like natural teeth. In the past, porcelain fillings weren't durable enough to be used on the back teeth, but with the help of new technology, they can be used on all teeth.

Procedure
There is really not much difference between getting a white filling and an amalgam filling. The procedure can be done in two office visits. The steps include:
  • First, your tooth will be prepared. This involves removing any decay in the tooth and then “etching” the tooth so that that porcelain will properly adhere to the tooth.
  • Second, once your tooth has been prepped, we will make a mold of the tooth cavity and it will be sent to a dental lab to be custom created for you.
  • Third, we will place a temporary filling in your tooth to allow you to live a normal life while your custom filling is being made.
  • Lastly, you will come back to the office to have the temporary filling removed and the permanent filling placed.

If you are considering white fillings, call or email our office, which serves Chicago and surrounding areas, to schedule a personal consultation with one of our experienced cosmetic dentists.

What is TMD?

The terms TMJ and TMD are often used interchangeably for the same conditions. TMJ stands for the temporomandibular joint, which is the joint that attaches the lower jaw to the temporal bone if your skull. TMD stands for temporomandibular joint disorder, which refers to the actual medical condition caused by a misaligned jaw.

TMD can have many symptoms, such as:
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Neck, shoulder and back pain
  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Pain or clicking in the joint
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Problems chewing or swallowing

It is often unclear what causes TMD, but some possible causes include:
  • Accidents involving a blow to the face or whiplash from a car crash
  • Clenching or grinding teeth while sleeping or during stressful situations
  • Arthritis in the TMJ

If you are one of the many people who suffer from pain related to TMD, it's time for you to visit one of our Chicago neuromuscular dentists. We serve the northern suburbs of Chicago and provide treatment for TMD. Call or email us today because there is no reason to go through life in pain when we are here to help.
