Causes of Migraine Headaches
TMD happens when your jaw is misaligned, which can lead not only to migraines and headaches, but also to a host of other symptoms as well:
- Cracked or worn teeth
- Clicking or popping in the jaw
- Problems chewing or swallowing
- Ringing in the ears
- Neck and shoulder pain
Migraines related to TMD happen because of the trigeminal nerve. This nerve is one of the most complex nerves in the body. It alone is responsible for close to half of all the brain's processing. This nerve also has three different branches, one going to the face, one to the head, and other to the shoulders and arms. That's why many times migraines will induce other pain in the face, shoulders and arms.
